A Local Notice to Mariners is an authoritative instruction issued by a designated official, usually the harbormaster.

In the United States, notice is issued by each US District Coast Guard to disseminate important information affecting the safety of navigation in the District. This notice reports changes and deficiencies in assisting navigation managed by the Coast Guard. Other marine information such as new charts, channel depth, naval operations, and regattas are included. Because temporary information of short duration is not included in Weekly Notices for Seafarers, Local Notice to Seafarers may be the sole source of that information. Small craft using Intracoastal Waterway and small ports not normally used by oceangoing vessels require it to keep graphics and publications up to date.
Because it corrects information for the US graph in the Notice for Seafarers obtained from Coast Guard Notice, it is normal to expect a break of 1 or 2 weeks for Notice for Mariners to publish corrections from source this.
The Local Notice to Mariners can be obtained free of charge by contacting the appropriate Coast Guard District Commander. Ships operating in ports and waterways in some districts should receive Local Notices for Seafarers from each district.
