Notice Claimed Claim or NOCI is a notification from the owner of the copyrighted material to the online service provider. This notice identifies copyrighted material, alleges unauthorized use, and demands a quick takedown. By complying with requests, online service providers are exempt from responsibility for activities that violate their users.

Intermediary duty
The US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (1998) waives online intermediaries that host copyright infringing content, as long as they do not know it and take action once the infringing content is brought to their attention. To protect their copyrights, the owner must notify online intermediaries of infringing activity, and request that copyrighted content be removed. Such notices are often called NOCIs or takedown notices.
