Brand New is an American rock band from Long Island, New York. Formed in 2000, the band consists of Jesse Lacey (vocals, guitar), Vincent Accardi (guitar, vocals), Garrett Tierney (bass guitar, vocals), and Brian Lane (drums, percussionists); they joined Benjamin Homola (percussion) for their live performances. From 2005 to 2013, the band also included Derrick Sherman (guitar, backing vocals, keyboards). The band is recognized as one of the most influential in the 2000 alternative rock and emo scenes, famous for making artistic statements with their music while their colleagues aim for commercial success.

During the late 1990s in Levittown, New York, Jesse Lacey, Garrett Tierney and Brian Lane were all members of the band The Rookie Lot. They eventually split from another group member, and in 2000 formed Brand New in Merrick, New York. The band signed a contract with Triple Crown Records and in 2001 released their debut studio album, Your Favorite Guns . Their second album, Deja Entendu , was released in 2003 and marked a change of style for the band, which garnered a very positive critical reception. The first two singles of this album, "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" and "Glide Fist Sic Transit... Glory Fades", both received broadcasts on MTV2 and Fuse TV, entered the top 40 on the UK Singles Chart. Deja Entendu finally got a gold certificate in the United States.

Brand New moved to Interscope Records and released the critically acclaimed "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me" in 2006. "Jesus Christ" became their highest chart single in the US, peaking at number 30 on Song- Alternative song graph. In March 2008, the band started their own record label, named Procrastinate! Music Traitor. Their fourth album, Daisy , was released in 2009 and became their highest charting album in the US, reaching number six on Billboard 200. The band released two non-album singles following < i> Daisy , "Mene" in April 2015 and "I Am a Nightmare" in May 2016. Brand New surprisingly-released their fifth studio album Science Fiction on August 17, 2017, two days after announcing its launch on vinyl. Receiving critical acclaim and commercial success, it became Brand One's number one new album on Billboard 200.

Frontman Jesse Lacey has stated that the band will be disbanded in 2018, along with T-shirt designs and lyrical lyrical inserts that signal that possibility as well.

On November 10, 2017, Lacey was accused of sexual misconduct, allegedly engaging in inappropriate behavior with minors in 2002. Lacey did not deny this charge.

Prior to the official formation of Brand New, in the late 1990s, Jesse Lacey, Garrett Tierney and Brian Lane were members of the Rookie Lot post-hardcore band, along with Brandon Reilly and Alex Dunne of the Crime in Stereo. Lot Rookie split and did not play for a while until Lacey, Lane and Tierney started practicing again. After Reilly joined The Movielife, they later recruited guitarist Vincent Accardi, who had played in a band called One Last Goodbye.

The four members have a backdrop that connects to the local independent Long Island and their hardcore music scene, but with influences from various artists ranging from Buddy Rich to Archer of Loaf. They eventually formed Brand New in 2000, in the basement of Merrick, New York. Their initial intention is always to "move beyond any idea they feel tends to be when they make music as a younger person." The band got exposure on the local scene through play performances with alternative rock Midtown contemporaries and post-hardcore bands like Glassjaw, while also releasing a four-song demo. They signed a contract with Triple Crown Records after their second show.

The debut studio album Brand New Your Favorite Weapon is produced by a friend of the band Mike Sapone. The album has been described as "bitter about ex-boyfriends", with an excessive concentration on "post-breaking anxiety". It received relatively positive reviews, with Allmusic giving it three out of five and Popmatters also favorable. It became a moderate success, selling over 50,000 copies. The record deal gave Brand New a chance to tour, play with people like Taking Back Sunday and tour the UK to support Finch, to the "overwhelming response" of the crowd.

The only ones released from Your Favorite Weapon are "Jude Law and a Semester Abroad". The song has been described by Allmusic as "semi-hit" after receiving broadcasts on MTV2 and Fuse. Deja_Entendu_and_acclaim_ (2003-2004) "> Deja Entendu and praise (2003- 2004)

Brand New's second studio album is written in "year and a half or two years" that they're on a material tour off your Favorite Arms. According to drummer Brian Lane, "Jesse [Lacey] wrote many lyrics about things different from 'I just broke up with my girlfriend' for a new recording," when Lacey wrote songs on an acoustic guitar in her bedroom. Lane also explained that the band is now influenced by different artists: "All of us are exposed to a lot of different music that we all hear. For our first [album] not in close proximity, for 24 hours a day. has something to do with it. "Unlike their first album, it is said that a lot of time and concentration to make the album.

The band released Deja Entendu via Razor & amp; Tie/Triple Crown Records in June 2003, released in Europe and Australia in October 2003. The album title, Deja Entendu , is French for "have heard." It was described as "very tongue-in-cheek" by vocalist Jesse Lacey. Describing the meaning of the title, he told MTV, "No matter who you are or what band you are, you can not record without people saying it's a derivative of something else, so by saying the recording has been heard, it's like saying, 'Yes, you're right. We're doing something that's been done before. "" He's reinforced, "We're not trying to solve new problems in music. We're just trying to make good music. "The album is described as a" style jump "from Your Favorite Weapon , in a" sure-to-be "mood." In an interview with Billboard , Lacey says that although the Deja Entendu does offer a different sound, the album "does not look like we're leaving from anything, really. I think we always know that we have a lot of potential and there are many different things we can do, and a lot of different sounds we want to make. Not long after we recorded the first record, we've been wondering where we're going from there. "

Deja Entendu debuted at number 63 on Billboard 200. After just seven weeks, the album's sales of more than 51,000 copies, is close to the total number of its predecessors. , Your Favorite Arms . In May 2007, four years after its launch, gold was certified to exceed 500,000 sales in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The first single Deja Entendu , "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows", impacted the radio broadcast in July 2003, a month after the album's release. The song is said to be sorry, or, as Lacey says, "how can there be a problem in a relationship and they are ignored, and how it often ends up as a broken home or some kind of bad situation on the way. , You can get past it. "The music video of this song recounts some time after a severe car accident, in which a seriously wounded Lacey can not go to the next world until she knows that her boyfriend, also injured in the accident, is safe in this regard. He said it "is about death or loss of someone and it is a time when you look back on your life and realize all the regrets you have, and all the things you hope you can change." They also make music videos for the second single, "Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades," in which Lacey acts like a human voodoo doll; found that when he moved a certain body part, it was imitated by his targeted action. "Because of his song about making use of others," he said, "there's a pretty strong correlation between the video and the song." Both music videos give exposure to the band in the mainstream where Your Favorite Guns go "almost unnoticed", with the videos finding "constant" playing on MTV and the band making their live television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live ! . Furthermore, both singles went into the top 40 on the UK Singles Chart, while "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" reached the 37th position on Billboard's chart Alternative Songs.

Three performances from the 24-day band underlining the US tour with Moneen, Senses Fail and The Beautiful Mistake have been sold out even before the release of the single, with many rumors surrounding the band produced only by word of mouth, message board and Internet. The success of Deja Entendu also made them tour with New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Dashboard Confessional, and Blink-182. The band went on to headline the Bamboozle festival with My Chemical Romance, Trio Alkaline, Triple, Early Outline, Fall Out Boy, The Bouncing Souls, Straylight Run and Flogging Molly. They also made their second trip to England in 2004, the first as a headline, and the tour was completely sold out.

After Deja Entendu , Brand New is pegged as an action to watch in the annual "Hot Issue" Rolling Stone '. The band topped the year-end punk critic list with "genre-defying" Deja Entendu , and the album was described as "a landmark album called 'emo-punk'." As a result of the success of the album and the famous underground band, Brand New found itself in the midst of a bidding war of record labels. At the time, Lane disagreed with the use of the phrase "bidding war," but admitted, "There are some labels that would be interested: we have been talking to many people for a while and we have narrowed it down." The band eventually signed with DreamWorks Records, which was later taken over by Interscope Records.

The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me and advanced praise (2005-2007)

After their signing to Interscope, Brand New stopped the tour to work on the third album and major label debut. Currently, little or no interviews or updates come from the band. In 2004, Jesse Lacey told the Chart magazine that she had written "some songs" for her next album, commenting that "others liked her". He mentioned the pressure he felt with "much anticipation builds on my shoulders," saying that he suffered from depression because of this; "I'm getting depressed with all the anxieties about the album and they say I wrote my best thing when I was in that country." Great, I'll spend the next six months all depressed and the whole band gets excited, so some good ones (material) may be out And then I have to contend with how it's received. "Lacey also said that the album would" move into new territory for Brand New ".

At the end of 2005, Brand New began recording their highly anticipated third album in Oxford, Mississippi with producer Dennis Herring, but then dropped it for Mike Sapone who had worked on their first album.

In January 2006, nine songs recorded for the album were leaked onto the Internet. In response to the leak, Garrett Tierney stated "I will say it in a good way because so many people want to know what we've done - and for the most part, the recording track does not sound like a leaked demo." However, Lacey not so excited when asked, saying, "For me it's different, it makes me sad for a while, nobody likes to show their creations in the middle of the process, and the songs do not finish like a blueprint Just the plan, right? ? It puts me in a state where I am under the impression that the songs have been wasted or something - that we have to go and write new things because that has been heard. Now, in retrospect I want those songs to be on the album and many of them are not, and I may blame her more than anyone. This record has been incomplete for me without the songs and probably will be interrupted manya. "

In the months that followed, with Brand New performing their first tour dates in over 18 months, some songs from the demos were done with full bands, some were refined and had new lyrics. The new songs have their debut as well during the summer tour dates. Brand New started its first tour in a few years on June 20, 2006, in which Lacey stated that the album had been completed the previous day.

Alternative Press publishes the start date of October 10, 2006, as the album's release date; this was later corrected on the band's official website, when it was announced that the new album would be released on November 21, 2006 in North America, and the day before in Europe. Soon after, the track list and cover art were revealed, as well as new information about the first single release - "Sowing Season". Having previously leaked as a demo, the completed song began airing on radio on October 19, 2006, and appeared on their MySpace page a day later. According to Lacey in a radio interview from England (BBC Radio 1 with Zane Lowe), the title of The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me was taken from a conversation she did with her friend about musician Daniel Johnston, who has bipolar disorder. The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me has since become the most prestigious album in Brand New and is considered one of the best albums of the 2000s.

At the end of December 2006, an unusual video was released for the instrumental song "Untitled", also known as "-", which consisted of a man painting a wall painting with "evil and good rage inside me" and corrected it to give the album title. On January 16, 2007, "Jesus Christ" was announced as the next official single from the album. It peaked at number 30 on the Alternative Songs chart Billboard , becoming Brand New's biggest hit. On January 19, the band performed the song on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. They did it again on February 26th at the Late Show with David Letterman .

From January to June 2007, the band toured the United States, Europe, Canada and Australia, including a headline at the Give It A Name festival in the UK and played the main stage at The Bamboozle festival. Despite the band's reluctance to the press around the time of the album release, they are featured on Alternative Press , a cover story for Rock Sound , Kerrang! , and NME . The band went on a tour for the fall of 2007, with the opening of Thrice and MewithoutYou. In early 2008, Brand New toured Australia and New Zealand at the Big Day Out festival.

In October 2007, the band announced via their official website that a new song, titled "(Fork and Knife)", will be released online on October 23, 2007. "(Fork and Knife)", a re-recorded version of the song previously known as "Untitled 7" from a leaked demo, released as digital download without album.

Daisy (2008-2011)

In March 2008, Brand New started their own record label, Procrastination! Music Traitor. The first action signed to the new label was Kevin Devine's old friend. The first release of the label was the reissue of Kevin Devine 2006 album, Enter Your Ghosts for Rest , in April 2008.

In October 2008, it was stated that Brand New was in a studio that undermined their new record and is currently recording vocals. Later in December, updates on Brand New's website announced that they had been in and out of the studio since around March, with about 15 tracks to choose from. The album was recorded over a 12 month period from March 2008, with the band announcing in April 2009 that they had started mixing with Dave Sardy and they were hoping to release their fourth studio album in the summer of 2009, with a possible, summer tour to follow. The release date was later postponed to October 2009, which was announced during live performances at the 2009 Glastonbury Festival, where Brand New plays two new songs, while titled "Bride" and "Gasoline". The band played on the main stage at Reading and Leeds Festivals in August 2009; both performances at the Reading Festival and Glastonbury Festival were filmed by the BBC, but Brand New denied the BBC's right to broadcast the show either on television or on the BBC website.

In June 2009, the UK music magazine Rock Sound , claimed on their website that they had received a copy of the upcoming album, though that, according to a picture was later posted by the editor, "incomplete". This site publishes a list of "temporary" songs and reports an incomplete version that they have received for approximately 30 minutes.

In an interview with Kerrang! Jesse Lacey commented on the upcoming album content, "This is a pretty tiring record, it's pretty solid and I think some of the decisions we made do not always go the deepest, clear directions. We think more about what we wanted to play on stage rather than really want to hear the recording. "He then questioned the band's future, saying," I think a lot of these recordings are about us trying to make decisions about how long this band should continue. listen back, I realize how many songs about something approaching, or knowing when it's time to get rid of something and move on. "

On July 7, it was announced that the album would be titled And One Head Can Never Die (being set and one head never die ) and will be released via Interscope Notes on September 22 2009. However, on July 9, it was announced on the band's website that the album title has been changed to Daisy , with the release date still unchanged. The album's first single, "At the Bottom", was released via digital outlet on August 11, 2009. Daisy saw vocalist Jesse Lacey step down from the songwriting and give a role to guitarist Vincent Accardi along with the others. members of the band.

Daisy debuted at number six on Billboard 200 in the US, selling 46,000 recordings on what entered their first top 20 on the chart after The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me has reached number 31.

Brand New announced that they would bring together Manchester orchestra, Thrice, Glassjaw, Sybris, The Builders and the Butchers, and Crime in Stereo on selected/spin dates from their Fall North American headlining tour. On January 23, 2010, Brand New played their biggest current UK major performance at Wembley Arena London in front of 12,500 people. Support comes from Glassjaw and Thrice.

When asked if the rumor was true that Daisy would be the band's last release, Lacey replied "I do not think it will be true. This may be our last long record for a while, but we have many marching things that we want to record it, so I think it will happen soon. "In early 2010, drummer Brian Lane stated that Brand New is not sure about how they plan to release music in the future with technology being a factor; "I do not know if there's any point in releasing a recording if they're not a physical release, if we're going to release a lot of things digitally then I do not see why we can not release a week's song or song a month or just release what we like from whenever we record. "Lane also discusses how the band can release their recordings in the future," We are talking about recording another album but we do not know if it will come out on the label or whether we just release the song in batches. "

On April 28, 2010, at their show in Clifton Park, NY, it was announced that the band fulfilled their contract with Interscope Records, and is now not signed.

On November 21, 2011, the band reweased their debut album Your Favorite Weapon with new artwork and bonus tracks.

Scientific Fiction and planned dissolution ( 2012-present)

The writing sessions for the band's fifth studio album first started in 2009, shortly after the band released Daisy, Lacey stated that the band had new material they were looking to record, rejecting rumors that Daisy /i> will be their last full-length album. Discussing the musical direction of the fifth album, Lacey states that she believes Daisy is "just the way" and that they might retreat and explore alternate directions to pick up their new music. The band was booked to enter the recording studio in April 2012, but the band ended up using this time for personal music projects compared to Brand New recordings.

It was officially announced through the band's website on June 19, 2014 that the band had written and recorded new material, as well as built their own studio.

In April 2015 it was reported that the band had been sending lyrical books for their album Devil and Lord Raging Inside Me as part of an unmet bid made nine years earlier, where if fans sent $ 1 they would receive the lyrics. The booklet, titled Pogolith 000 , was first derided late in 2014 on the band's website by The Up Studio . This booklet also contains posters that allude to the previously unreleased demo releases of the 2005 band Fight Off Your Demons on cassette, as well as postcards with the words "rip 2018", which sparked rumors about possible breakup of the band. As part of Record Store Day 2015, the band released their second album Deja Entendu as a limited vinyl, accompanied by Pogolith 00, a booklet containing the lyrics for the album. Standard edition, non-limited vinyl made available on May 5, 2015. Both Pogolith 000 and Pogolith 00 are then available at the show and through the band's online store.

On April 8, 2015 their show in Denver, Colorado, the band featured a new song listed on the band's setlist as "Do not Feel Anything", which was later titled "Mene". On April 13th, the song was available as a free download through the band's website. The second new song "Sealed to Me" premiered in Los Angeles, California on April 15th. The band allowed their performances at Lollapalooza in Berlin on September 13, 2015 and Austin City Limits in Austin, Texas on October 3, 2015 for broadcast. This marked the band's first time allowing their appearance to be broadcast, with Lacey previously stating that the band was uncomfortable recording their live sets. On October 11, 2015 while playing their last show on the 2015 tour at the Ryman Auditorium, Lacey told the audience that "it will not last much longer". He talks about his friendship with the band, the possibility of a new album, and how he will soon become a father.

On December 2, 2015, the band made their Leaked Demos 2006 available for the first time, releasing it on a limited edition red tape with a digital download card. The tape was then released in black. On May 17, 2016, the band released a new single titled "I Am a Nightmare" with a new album scheduled for release in 2016.

On July 13, 2016, the band released an EP called 3 Demos, Reworked . The EP contained a re-recorded version of 3 songs that appeared in Leaked Demos 2006. On July 22, 2016, the band released a physical 7 "Mene single with a b-side" Out of Range, "a previously unreleased song that has been leaked on the year 2010.

During the same summer, the new shirt design was revealed by the band via social media, two of which stated "2000-2018". One design was also projected onto the stage after the band's performance on the same day at the Vogue Theater in Vancouver, increasing the amount of speculation about that the band might imply a planned split in 2018. Frontman Lacey confirmed speculation among songs over a set in Salt Lake City , Utah in June. He declared "We're done.Oh yeah, we're done, and it makes this even more special night so thanks for being here."

On September 26, 2016, the band revealed that the most recent album promised to fans will not be released in 2016. The band feels that the songs on the album are incomplete and require more time to be considered finished. The band also announced that they will celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Devil and God is Raging Inside Me by playing it as a whole the rest of the tour. There are also more statements that offend the end of the band: "What's left should be a strange death, but hopefully one that is hard and fun as the rest of our time together has been invited all.

On August 15, 2017, the band announced on Instagram that their fifth LP will be released on vinyl in October 2017. Two days later on August 17, many people who had previously ordered a vinyl edition of the album received a CD (limited to 500) on the post containing the album as a whole, named Science Fiction , was compressed into a single song for 61 minutes. The album was then put up for sale on their website confirming it as their fifth LP. Science Fiction was greeted with critical acclaim and commercial success, as it became Brand New's first album to debut at number one on Billboard 200.

On September 13, 2017, Kevin Devine announced via Facebook that he would take time off from his own projects, Kevin Devine and the Goddamn Band, to join Brand New on their Sci-Fi tour as an additional guitarist and vocalist. Surf tone, the band Lacey has declared herself a fan, presented as an opening for the tour. During the show in October 2017, Lacey further confirmed the end of the band, stating "We will be a band for about 14 more months, so thank you very much for being here tonight."

By the end of 2017, Lacey was accused of misbehaving during the early and mid-2000s. He issued a public apology on Brand New Facebook page, which leads guitarist Kevin Devine's tour and supports Martha's actions to get out of Europe's upcoming tour schedule. The band then announced a concert delay, which has not been rescheduled.

Inheritance and influence

Brand New has been recognized as one of the most loved and important bands of the emo genre. Their eternal followers, described as "sect-like", are renowned for their fan base and their heritage continued steadily throughout their careers while other bands from the 2000s scene have faded into obscurity. They have been widely praised by critics for making artistic statements with their music, rather than aiming for mainstream successes as did many people in their day. Ian Cohen of Pitchfork commented, "popular guitar music in 2017 has been refuted by Brand New, a band that has functioned not only as a faulty role model but as a formative musical influence." Writing for The Outline, Zoe Camp stated that "they are getting more sincere and self-conscious in a genre where emotional histrionic is the standard setting." Music like this makes them, and Lacey, looks very different from Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz, Takes Back Adam Lazzarra day Sunday, or just about any other sad white man who ever closed the Alternative Press. Spin states that "Brand New is not just a band, they are a lifeline and a protection for thousands of messy kids. " Ryan Bassil of Noisey declared Brand New "to be crowned as the best band of a generation." Brand New's influence on new downbeat hip hop waves has also been noted, with Lindsay Zoladz from The Ringer stating "your favorite rapper of the future may be listening to Brand New now." Music writers have recognized the eight year hiatus between 2009 Daisy and Science Fiction in 2017 as important for the growth of Brand New heritage in the music world.

Musicians are influenced by Brand New including the Manchester Orchestra, without you, Citizen, Sorority Noise and Lil Peep.
