Histori

The origin of the name Savar is considered a growing version of the ancient 7-8th century city of ????????? ShÃÆ''rbeshshÃÆ'Â'r ("God everything") or ?????? ShÃÆ''mbhar is located on the banks of the river known today as Bangshi. ShÃÆ''rbeshshÃÆ''r, in turn, is said to have been established on the site of ancient Sambagh Kingdom. Local legends as well as archaeological discoveries show a king by the name of Harishchandra, said to be the Pala dynasty, reigning over ShÃÆ''rbeshshÃÆ'Â'r - supposedly from the first half of the 7th century after arriving from the region of Rarh. Is there an old shloka that goes ???????????????? ????????? ????, ???? ???? ?????????? ???? ??????? BÃÆ''ngshaboti-purbotire shÃÆ''rbeshshÃÆ'Â'r nÃÆ'Â'gori, boishe king HorishchÃÆ'Â'ndro jini shurpuri ("On the eastern edge of Bangsabati is the city of Sharbeshvar, dwell there King Harishchandra conquers Heaven"). There are several opinions among historians about the legend surrounding the reign of Harishchandra, as they may relate to other kings who have the same or similar names (eg Harishchandra of the mythical Suryavansha, the Harishchandra king of Bikrampur among others). In any case local legend states that Harishchandra who had no children was replaced by the son of his daughter Rajeswari, Damodar. Damodar rule began to decline for the kingdom, culminating in the reign of one of his descendants, king Ravan, a musical enthusiast. During Ravan's reign, Koch invaded and dismissed the capital founded by Harishchandra. However, the inscription on the undated fragment of burned bricks shows, king Mahendra in 869 CE dedicated mathematics to his father, the holy king Harishchandra, son of king Ranadhirasena, son of the king of Dhimantasena, son of the king of Bhimasena. The same inscription also states that the Dhimantasena Buddhist king invaded and seized the land between Bangshi and Brahmaputra and the king of Ranadhirasena extended the kingdom to the Himalayas and repaired his residence in the town of ShÃÆ''mbhar.

During the 1971 war, the Savar Cantonment (then Ansar Camp) and the newly established Jahangirnagar University were some of the first targets of military offensive outside the capital after Operation Searchlight March 25. In December of that year, the Savar was the last barrier before independence fighters (led by Kader Siddiqui and others) entered the capital and the Pakistani army conceded defeat. A few days before the war ended, teenagers Golam Dastagirr Titu died in a direct encounter between Pakistani soldiers and freedom fighters. The compatriots buried him near the main gate of Breading Central Cow & amp; Dairy Farm, Savar. The Bangladesh army built a memorial monument to honor it.

On 24 November 2012, a garment factory fire killed at least 112 people. The factory makes clothing for US and European companies and is blamed for negligent safety standards. Walmart and Sears, two contracted companies working from the factory, refused to compensate the victims.

On April 24, 2013 a building in Savar collapsed, killing 1,129 people and injuring about 2,500 people. The building is a garment factory that exports clothing to US and European companies. Eighty percent of workers are women aged 18-20, paid $ 0.12- $ 0.26 per hour.

Politics

Some Hindu families played an important role in municipal development during the Raj of England in the 19th and early 20th centuries. After the expansion of India in 1947, Hindu influence in the area was reduced after the departure of many prominent Hindu families. The 1960s saw the formation of several important institutions, including dairy farms and universities in the area. At the same time, communist politics are on the rise in the area. However, this was replaced by a Bengali nationalist spirit, when the Awami League of Bangladesh won elections in 1970 in this electoral district. In 1975, Savar was in the spotlight when Maoist leader Shiraj Shikdar was tortured in secret and executed in the Savon Cantonment. Savar was politically important to military dictators in the mid-1970s and 1980s, as the armory here was the closest outside the capital.

From the 1990s to the mid-2000s, the Bangladeshi Nationalist Party candidate was regularly elected to parliament from this constituency. However, the Awami League of Bangladesh and other parties; The Communist Party of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Socialist Party, the Workers Party (Menon), the Awami National Party, Sammobady Dal (including some Muslims) continue to have a grassroots existence. Elections at the end of 2008 saw a Bangladesh Awami League candidate elected to parliament from this constituency. Jahangirnagar University and several universities in this area serve as an active student's nest and disputes. Foreign officials usually visit Savar as part of their trip to Bangladesh to honor the martyrs of 1971 at Jatiyo Smriti Soudho.
