Oxegen is a music festival in Ireland, first held from 2004-2011 as a rock and pop festival and again in 2013 with dance and action charts only. The show is often touted as Ireland's largest music festival, and, in 2009, it was touted as the greenest festival, becoming a 100% carbon neutral event in Ireland. Previously called Witnness, which runs from 2000 and is sponsored by Guinness. The event was promoted by MCD and sponsored by Heineken. Oxegen was originally a three-day festival, but from 2008 onwards, it expanded to four days.
It takes place at Punchestown Racecourse in County Kildare, Ireland and has an average attendance of about 60,000 per day, with about 50,000 of campers on this site for the duration, and the rest traveling to the site daily. It happens on the same weekend as T in the Park in Scotland and shares a very similar line every year, but Oxegen is generally regarded as an Irish version of the Glastonbury Festival, with the 2008 festival sharing the same three headliners as its British counterpart.
Oxegen has attracted significant attention from outside Ireland, with many of those attending trips from abroad experiencing a "mass exodus" to the festival. Band members such as The Killers, Snow Patrol, and R.E.M. have talked positively about their experiences at the festival. Celebrities are often present, including models of Helena Christensen (a regular attendant) and television personality Chris Pontius, actor Josh Hartnett, and Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones, pursued by "half journalists in the country" and many of his own relatives for many festivals 2008. this has also attracted some negative publicity, especially after the 2006 festival. It is associated with factors such as age of entry (17) and easy access to alcohol.
Oxegen, for two consecutive years, was named the Best European Festival in a poll that included festivals from France, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and other countries, led The Sunday Business Post s Nicola Cooke to describe it as "one of the most successful music festivals in Ireland has [ sic ]". The League of O'Toole describes it as "a very successful, award winning, and well-established brand [...] aimed at young audiences for a good time, a perfect post-Leaving Cert rite for action with great singalong songs that sounds great in the mud ". Oxegen accepts the mention in Colum McCann's short story "Aisling".
In April 2014, organizers announced that the Oxegen festival would not run ahead of the year, citing the lack of appropriate headline action.

Histori
Oxegen was first held in 2004 during the second weekend of July. The Killers, which became the title of the festival twice in 2007 and 2009, was one of the bands that appeared at the first Oxegen. Dave Keuning, in an interview with Hot Press before the 2009 festival, described Oxegen as "a big deal because it was one of the first European festivals we played [sic] when we came from Vegas in 2004. We only had one hit - "Mr. Brightside "- and worried that no one would show, but the tent was packed with people shouting words for songs we did not think they knew. That night we thought, 'Hey, something happened here!' Oxegen more than Glastonbury is even the peak of our summer. "
The original festival, Witnness, sponsored by Guinness, takes place during early August with the main leaders, including Oasis, The Foo Fighters and Green Day. In the second and third year, the run changed its date to the second weekend of July. In 2008 Oxegen became a three-day festival.
Rodrigo y Gabriela made their breakthrough after being asked by Damien Rice to perform with him at Oxegen 2004.
Japanese popstars formed after seeing several dance acts at Oxegen 2006.
BRAKE. members Michael Stipe and Peter Buck watched several performances from the stage at Oxegen 2007 before returning to the title of the festival the following year. Stipe praised his visit in 2007 by inspiring him to want to go on tour again, saying: "I saw all these great bands and the next day after the festival we went to the studio."
Muse, famous for their spectacular light show and reputation as one of the best live bands in the world, entitled Oxegen 2007. They again became headstage on Saturday night at the 2010 festival.
The battle played the biggest festival show of their career at that time at the Pet Sounds Arena during Oxegen 2008. Prodigy played four new songs at Oxegen 2008. Also in 2008, Interpol sent champagne by U2 when they arrived for practice.
Chad Wolf of Carolina Wild described the band's performance at Oxegen 2009 as "an out-of-body experience".
Each Oxegen has been determined by focusing attention on the weather itself, with The Belfast Telegraph refers to 2005 as the "sunny", 2006 as "very heavy rain", 2007 as "muddy" and 2008 as "the so-so".

Facilities
As well as the eight stages of music today, there are three great areas for camping that are divided by the number and colors of blue, red and green - which are the VIP campsites. Backstage and media areas are located in the middle of the site in buildings that are usually used to watch races. Cafes and shops are also provided for festival visitors, as well as toilet and shower areas for camping from 2006 onwards.
The Centra store is located in every campsite from 2007 onwards and An Post first appeared at the festival in 2008. The toilet facilities, previously criticized by some as inadequate for a large number of people at the festival, are increasing in the last year. There is also a night market adjacent to the arena, featuring large wheels and other rides, such as "Magic Carpet", "Big Drop", and roller coaster. In 2008, additional entertainment venues were located in blue camps along with other campus entertainment such as circuses, silent discos and Xbox Live Stage. Glass in any form is prohibited from the festival sites and cork bottles, cans and umbrellas are prohibited from the concert arena.
52 mile fence is used throughout the site. 14 megawatts of power is used to energize Oxegen, with 28,000 miles of cable used to transfer this power. 25,000 liters of water tankers are located near the site. Hats and robes are regularly seen, while shoes are also worn by festival goers.
The Dance Arena is a large warehouse formerly used for ideal home exhibitions.

There were 225 drug arrests (with 13 allegations of possession with the intent to supply), one alleged rape, and the Evening Herald reported that about 250 people were being treated for alcoholism and drugs. When 40 people were sent to Naas General Hospital, concern was raised from a bad ecstasy, but no evidence of the collection was found. A number of media were threatened with legal action over their coverage of Oxegen 2006 afterwards. hiatus 2012
On December 21, 2011, MCD posted a short notice on the Oxegen website which confirmed the rumor that Oxegen 2012 had been canceled. The statement reads as follows: "OXEGEN, like Glastonbury, takes a year off in 2012 and will be back in July 2013. Hopefully everyone is very happy Christmas & New Year peace.Continue Rockin 'in 2012 and we will meet you at in 2013! Your Oxegen Team ".
The cancellation is expected to damage the local economy in Kildare. The media portrays the Dublin Tour of The Roses Reunion Tour, held at Phoenix Park on July 5, 2012, in lieu of this year's Oxegen shortage. A Swedish House Mafia concert in the same spot two days later also drew comparisons with the festival, with "Oxegen-like behavior" culminating in a number of random and unwarranted attacks and concerns that "Outside events that have dominated the news agenda since the House Mafia Show Sweden [...] will forever be associated with stabbing and alleged drug-related deaths rather than music. "
festival 2013
MCD Chairman Denis Desmond revealed, on Oxegen's official website in April 2013, the news that Oxegen will return to the Irish festival this summer, after a year's absence.
The festival takes place at the usual Punchestown Racecourse house in Kildare, and takes place on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th days. On April 22 an announcement was made to confirm the first set of games being played. Confirmed are Calvin Harris, Rizzle Kicks, Jack Beats, Duke Dumont, Example, Pitbull, Nero. On April 24, David Guetta was announced as one of the main headlines. Line-up is heavily criticized for not having a guitar band. The actual announcement post was removed on the same day with very heavy negative feedback so the festival promoter urged MCD to remove it to avoid embarrassment. It is estimated that ticket sales are bad, and this may be the last time MCD attended the festival. Revelers noted that there were 38 bands over the headliners this year in 2010.
