Charles John Mahoney (June 20, 1940 - February 4, 2018) is a British-American stage, film and television actor.

Born in Blackpool, England, Mahoney emigrated to the United States aged 18 and started his acting career on stage in 1977, and moved to film in 1980. He is best known for playing as a blue-collar Martin Crane patriarch in American sitcoms. i> Frasier , which aired on NBC from 1993 to 2004. In addition to his film and television work, Mahoney also works as a voice actor and is very interested in his stage work on Broadway and in the Chicago theater.

Mahoney was born in Bispham area in Blackpool, England on June 20, 1940, the seventh of eight children. His paternal grandfather was Irish Catholic.

Mahoney moved to the United States aged 18 years in March 1959 when his older sister Vera, a bride of war who lived in rural Illinois, agreed to sponsor it. He studied at Quincy University, Illinois, before joining the United States Army. After graduating from Quincy, he lived in Macomb, Illinois, and taught English at Western Illinois University in the early 1970s, before settling in Forest Park, Illinois, and later in Oak Park, Illinois. He became a US citizen in 1971 and served as editor of the medical journal until the 1970s.

Careers

Initial work

Unsatisfied with his career, Mahoney took an acting class at St. Theaters. Nicholas, who inspired him to step down from his job and pursue full-time acting. Personal life

Together with David Hyde Pierce, Mahoney is the godfather of Jane Leeves's son Finn's co-star Jane FrÃ©zÃ©s. Mahoney rarely spoke publicly about his personal life, but in a 2002 article he revealed that he had been in several relationships, even though he had never been married, citing the unhappy marriage of his parents as something he feared would be repeated. He had colon cancer in the mid-1980s and felt that he could not have sex after colostomy. His Catholic faith is the center of his life and work.
