Anyone from Ontario?

If someone has free time, they may want to look at Wikipedia: Articles for Removal/Lease control in Ontario. This article is clearly visible, in my view, but I do not exclude sound. Instead, it would be better if someone could spend the time to transfer the sources I found into the article. I am not a Canadian so everything I do not know, although I can find many sources easily. Cheers, Stalwart 111 13:46, July 1, 2013 (UTC)

Ã, Done - Fixed - thank you for submitting this article to us. I have added your sources to further reading sections - I use sources used in other parts of Wikipedia.Moxy (talk) 14:15, July 1, 2013 (UTC)
No problem - no matter what works. It just seems like an easy fix and while I've been working on historical things in Canada before, I do not want to complicate the current problem with my uninformed edits. Your changes look good - good work! Stalwart 111 14:59, July 1, 2013 (UTC)

Canadian symbol

Do not know if anyone is interested at all at our state Arms, but I'm through some government websites on another day, and to my surprise, find that all Arms versions are still under the protection and protection of copyright as one of the official symbols we. However, looking at commons, all of these images are under a freely copyright-free license. I do not know if anyone is more familiar than me with Canadian copyright, and would be interested in seeing the list of sources I've compiled. The first discussion ends on the conversation page under Commons: File talk: The Canadian symbol (1923).jpg, Second Commons: Removal request/File: Canadian symbol (1957).png and other Commons: Request removal/File: Canadian symbols.svg. Any feedback will be appreciated, because Crown's eternal copyright concept expressed in three sources is a completely foreign co [it seems Wikipedia seems to be, and causes a bit of a commotion, which I never intended. trackratte (talk) 16:33, July 1, 2013 (UTC)

Canadian Collections Copyright

I have posted here before about the Canadian Copyright Collection we have uploaded to Commons - "Picturing Canada", several thousand photos kept for copyright from 1895 to 1924 - but here's the update. It's been dripping for the past month, and now there are about 4,000 images (2,000 photos with TIFF master and JPEG trimmed) available. The last of the main collections should go up this week, after which there are a few more pieces that still need to be sorted.

Have a shot - hopefully some of it might be useful! Andrew Gray (talk) 23:20, June 23, 2013 (UTC)

Very useful, thanks..... it would be good to see something similar done to Nat'l Archives and VPL and other collections that are public domain..... little players with BC Archives, which claims copyright on a negative print in their ownership, but often does not have the actual right to claim copyright on images per se .Skookum1 (talk) 05:09, June 24, 2013 (UTC)
Somewhat mammoth performs for WP: CANADA members to add categories to everyone so they can be found/used more easily...... I'm not sure of all the categories there is in Commons in reality. Skookum1 (talk) 05:55, June 24, 2013 (UTC)
This will definitely keep me busy for a while! There are some aesthetic gems, though (eg true), and it seems like we will get a large number of historic photos for small towns. Andrew Gray (talk) 20:40, June 26, 2013 (UTC)
Generally, all the initial photos are taken by professionals; not until the invention of box cameras (eg Kodak Brownie) doing casual photography became dominant as it is today. So the composition, pose and lighting etc are generally more aesthetically and of high quality, especially portraits. But also to build images, because photographers have been hired to create "portraits" of the structure for promotional reasons. This is a great collection for sure and I glance at the category in Commons; so many photos, so many different categories..... and new suggestions, eg. Wildlife of Canada, because of the two parks of Banff that I put in the park category, but did not see where to group them; there is a Flora category, no Fauna, for example...... too broad a project to make my legs interested, but makes me wonder what is there...... difficult to navigate for now.... almost needs a taskforce that is besides the one in the UK that makes this.... is there a category category layout for a Canadian category somewhere that displays all category structures in one place, not just as category pages? Skookum1 (talk) 02:32, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
No clear category tree, unless you want to start on commons: Category: Canada and work - documentation category is not good. However, I've found that you can usually categorize by
  • Year and (general) locations - "1920 in Ontario", "1920 in Toronto". If there is no category year by location, use "1920 in Canada".
  • Location - "Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan" or "Rocky Mountains". For some small towns, the state or county may be the best we can do.
  • If anything or any person, building or person (sometimes) - "Temple Building", "Wilfrid Laurier"
  • If it fits a broad theme, then one of the subcategories (for example) "Economy of Canada", "Culture of Canada", "Nature of Canada", "History of Canada"
If there is no category for someone, but they are famous, it may be worth making one; if not, categorize portraits with something like "Politicians of Canada" or "Criminals from Canada". There is a hidden tracking category in every image ("Imagining uncategorized Canadian images"), which I delete after they finish, so do not worry just stick to one category and leave it to finish later; -) Andrew Gray (talk) 11:36, July 3, 2013 (UTC)
yes I am aware of the structure of the category, although it is sometimes different from that for Wikipedia..... I categorize pic of some buffalo in the Banff Nat'l Park into the category of park; did not find the category "Canadian Wildlife" or "Fauna or Canada" in the "Nature of Canada" that surprised me; but I never really spent much time in Commons, other than commenting on certain photographs.... Skookum1 (talk) 12:04, July 3, 2013 (UTC)

Just looked there again, it's hard to browse nearly 5000 images.... is there a search tool that can be applied only to images in that category? If anything, it might also help in adding category commons to them..... Skookum1 (talk) 07:00, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Commons does not support unlimited search by category (one day, perhaos!), but if you search for keyword hs85 you will get all PC files with that keyword in name or description - they all have filenames with (HS85-10-xxxxx) in them. Andrew Gray (talk) 11:36, July 3, 2013 (UTC)

Owen Hargreaves

Trying to keep historical information about this controversial decision not to play for the men's men's soccer team is impossible. A neutral person, a third person written, fully annotated content that portrays a protest in Canada removed by English football fans who whitewash a player's career.

You accuse me of having a political agenda? You obviously believe there is some sort of conspiracy against "smaller" football countries like Canada when there is absolutely no evidence to support that. Put your own house before you start accusing others. - PeeJay 18:29, July 9, 2013 (UTC)
Just for the record, looking at the actual text of the deleted material in question, PeeJay is correct in deleting it in WP: basic NPOV. The text is not , in fact, "neutral", and assigns WP weight: UNDUE (special subsections of the article, some sources are to create discussion forums rather than legitimate trusted media sources etc.) for what , in the scheme of things, a relatively small aspect of his entire career. That said, I can understand the OP's concerns about a specific editing summary that PeeJay uses to justify deletion, since it certainly can be interpreted as "Canada does not matter because it is Canada" (though I sure that it really is not the point) - but while there may be a way for us to include a neutral and objective text on a matter that does not give it too much weight, that is not it. In essence, PeeJay is true in deleting it, but maybe it just does not explain its actions as good as it can. Bearcat (talk) 16:57, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
Agreed. Deletion of parts is appropriate. The edit summary does not. The fact that his decision to play for England instead of Canada caused a spicy critic to belong... but only as a sentence or more in the section detailing his decision to play for England. It does not deserve its own "controversy" section, and the opinions of posters about fansites are meaningless. Firmly 22:10, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

I have to agree with the CCP for this one. There is little evidence at this point that localized local flashes and flash floods will have significant long-term effects on many things other than people's memories of a very unpleasant day's journey one day. (Unlike, for example, the recent Alberta flood - which lasts longer than a few hours, affects several cities, causes bridges to collapse, affects the Calgary Stampede, and so on.) If meaningful long-term consequences do not finally arise, then we can backed up and started an article at the time - but at the moment, the fact that it happens is not enough to guarantee a permanent article in the encyclopedia. Eeyou Istchee James Bay Area

I just stumbled on this article while wiki-gnoming. In short, what was once the Baie-James municipality in Quebec was abolished by an agreement signed in July 2012, and has been replaced by a new local government called Eeyou Istchee James Bay Territory. My question is whether Wikipedia should have two articles (current status) or rename the Baie-James article to reflect the structure of its new government. Opinion? T (alk) 14:51, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

If there is an institutional difference and not just a name change then I would say they must be different; if there is more to this local government than the usual municipal status/composition then it is like a change from the Athabasca Region to Alberta..... or the difference between the Oregon Territory and the Oregon (state).... Skookum1 (speech) 18:14 , July 12, 2013 (UTC)
In general, my basic rule is that if something just changes its name but fundamentally it's the same afterwards (eg renaming from Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield to Selwyn), then we should save all in one one article - but if two things combine to create a new new third thing, then we should try to save separate articles if possible.
However, "should be... if possible" is an important consideration, because the question can also be determined by how much of the content is sourced exactly what we have about the topic. For example, in principle New Liskeard and Haileybury can be legitimately regarded as separate article topics, rather than just exist as transfers to Temiskaming Shores as they do today - but in practice the city's article of association is still relatively short and not very good. sourced, and will not be well served simply by cutting out existing content . Thus, old cities should not be divided into separate articles until someone is ready to put lots work in extending and referring them well beyond the volume of content that we actually have now.
In this particular case, the existing Baie-James article is not the most substantive article Wikipedia has ever seen, so combining it will not be a big crime, but it's pretty good to let it go. too. However, if it is combined we also need to incorporate Eeyou Istchee (territory) into the new article as well because the new municipality replaces that one as well, and incorporating both of them together will most likely create a new article too long and confusing to be useful.
Thus, my own inclination is to leave an article in place. Bearcat (talk) 20:39, July 22, 2013 (UTC)

Montreal bus route (STM)

A few years ago, someone made an article for many of the bus routes operating in Montreal, organized by STM. (eg: 108 Bannantyne) I would like to propose that articles for individual bus routes are removed - they are not well known, and List SociÃÆ'Â © tÃÆ' Â © de transport de MontrÃÆ' Â © al bus route simply covers the subject matter. For comparison purposes, note that the list is used for Vancouver area buses, TTC buses, and GO buses. Some routes in Montreal might guarantee their own articles, and for that reason I think I would propose this strawman before going to AfD process. Opinion? T (alk) 12:51, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

I would say that for routes that you feel are clearly unknowable, you can redirect to the List of bus routes SociÃÆ'Â © tÃÆ' Â © de transport de MontrÃÆ' Â © al. If anyone challenges the redirection, then we can change the AFD. Firmly 13:34, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
I would say they should redirect to the list of articles. Except for the Montreal BRT article, which should be kept as an article, per wikiproek project on bus recommendations on the BRT route. And each route article also includes a previously replaced tram/tram/lighttrail/bus route, which should also be an article per project wikiproyek on the train. - 76.65.128.222 (talk) 06:06, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

A serious slander problem with the Royal Tour of Canada (18th-20th Century)

On this royal tour list, the entry for 1964 has the wrong statement. In 1964, the Queen visited PEI, Quebec, and Ontario. The list also says he visits Kamloops, which is almost certainly wrong. The sources provided in footnote 11 are some weird sites that drive the view of Kevin Annett, a cheater. The website says Queen Elizabeth II visited Kamloops to select some First Nations children who may be killed in a human sacrifice ceremony. You must understand that this is slanderous.

http://www.cbc.ca/archives/categories/society/the-monarchy/canadas-new-queen/truncheon-saturday.html About the Queen's visit in 1964, which sparked riots in Quebec.

About Kevin Annett:

http://aptn.ca/pages/news/2012/10/15/aptn-investigates-unmarked-graves-part-1/... http://aptn.ca/pages/news/2012/10/15/aptn-investigates-unmarked-graves-part-2/... http://aptn.ca/pages/news/2012/10/15/aptn-investigates-unmarked-graves-part-3/...

The urgency of this is because there is currently legitimate research in news of the Canadian government and organizations conducting nutrition experiments on Nutrition First Nations people, etc., and child abuse in residential schools in Canada, leading to death several thousand children at least, over the years.

But Kevin Annett made a wild exaggeration of the number of children who died and the irrefutable claims of mass murder and ritual murder, distracting from actual research, like this; http://muse.jhu.edu/login?auth=0&type=summary&url=/journals/histoire_sociale_social_history/v046/46.91.mosby.html

So well remove the false statements about the Queen in Kamloops in 1964 because it will mislead people badly and there is no evidence to support it. - Unmarked comments added by Contextnanny (talk o contribs) 18:18, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Compare provinces and territories to countries with similar areas

IP and registered users (appearing to be one in the same) repeatedly add districts that are comparable to the table in the List of provinces and territories of Canada by area over the last 10 days. I agree with the CCP. We just have to interpret the title when there are other articles that are equally entitled to the same title. That's not what happened here. There are too many "let's keep the precautions" going on on Wikipedia. Having said that, I do not think having two articles (Canadian Championships for Championship football and Canadian Championships for disambiguation pages) on different titles with just one "s" is a great idea. Football articles can remain in place, but at least the DAB page should move to the Canadian championship (since it is a general term, not the right name) and may have to move to the Canadian championship (disambiguation). --Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:37, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

I'm a little under the weather so can not focus on filtering out quotes available on google from the Metis history website. Skookum1 (talk) 08:02, August 20, 2013 (UTC)

Canadian Dollar

There is a discussion on MOS Canada on how to identify Canadian currency - please see Wikipedia talk: Manual Style/Canada-related articles # CAD vs CAD $. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 13:47, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Pot advocacy and display development

Justin Trudeau smoking marijuana since becoming a member of parliament... Liberal leader also tells Huffington Post, late brother, Michel, faces alleged possession of marijuana
We have to keep an eye on this. Nothing has been added yet... but let's make sure we say this correctly - anyone wants to stab it before the IP with the agenda gets these facts? See Talk: Justin Trudeau # Pot advocate and develop a view - Moxy (talk) 17:32, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Kellie Loder

An article about Canadian musician Kellie Loder has an ongoing article listing here. Any constructive comments you will give there will be greatly appreciated. Neelix (talk) 03:04, August 23, 2013 (UTC)

To-do list?

Is there a list of things to do for this wikiproek? If so how can I add a request for participants to check out the two categories at the end Category: Canada:

  • Categories: Canadian categories are less ubiquitous?
  • Category: Canadian stubs?

@Bearcat (not trying to select you but you are the title line writer) Notability is a problem in many wp: AFD discussion of pages not lack of reliable sources. Do you want me to include an example here?

Bearcat: You have claimed that Notability measured by an abundance of reliable sources is all that is needed to prevent deleted articles. You asked me to give an example of why DED is deleted based on other criteria, is not it? If so here is a very recent example: Wikipedia: Article for deletion/Mokenge P. Malafa (2nd nomination) Note that removal support is based on the following reasons - which do not talk about ALL about the quality of referrals:

  • the language of the article is too promotion
  • the author of the article is a (suspicious) paid editor
  • The person about whom the article was written "is not one of the leading people in the field" (in the opinion of Clear supporters)
  • Etc.

Active AFD where there are some fixed voices and only one deletion, in an article that still exists today, is also not a good example of the point you think you created. For one thing, you should also thoroughly evaluate the quality reference, not just their quantity , to determine whether the person is really claimed - people > often believes that articles are reliable based on press releases and other unauthorized sources (actually there is an article in AFD now quoting Frank as a source, for starters) - So the fact that there is > is the cited reference does not, by itself, prove that the reference is good . For two, there may be legitimate reasons in addition to a person's basic ignorance of why an article can still be deleted - even articles about someone passing our eligibility rules can still be removed if they violate conflict of interest rules (paid edits, promotions, etc.), for example, or if it is a copyright infringement (which is a big chunk of this article). And for the third, what evidence do you have at this point that the article will even end up with a delete consensus? Bearcat (talk) 22:05, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
Ottawa asked for my opinion, because I wrote that removing the reason.
