An experimental separation is an informal separation of the couple. Unlike the separation of the law, this is purely personal arrangement and does not require any legal process. The couple may choose later to pass the divorce or may choose to remain married.
Trial splitting can allow couples who want divorce to experience some feelings separately without making a final decision to divorce. The main advantage of trial separation, of course, is that it is easily reversible. Couples can try it for a while, undergo counseling, and then make peace, or they can try it for a while and then proceed with divorce.
