The Spartanburg Herald-Journal is a daily newspaper, and a major newspaper for Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA.

History
The origins of this paper begin with The Spartan , a weekly newspaper reported first printed around 1842-43. In 1844, his name was changed to Carolina Spartan . Around the year 1900, the newspaper was reportedly purchased by The Journal Publishing Company, who named it The Spartanburg Journal .
In 1872 (or 1875), The Spartanburg Herald began publishing. In 1890, the Herald began daily publication; Journal followed it in 1903.

In 1929, the owner of The Herald-Journal Publishing Company sold the papers to its paper distributor, International Paper and Power Company, which sold it to AG Keeney in 1936, which was in turn sold to SS "Blue" Wallace in 1939. Charles Edward Marsh brought the letters in 1946, and donated them to the nonprofit Community Welfare Foundation he created in 1947.
The 1969 federal tax law that requires non-profit to sell ownership of newspapers ultimately requires the sale of newspapers. The New York Times obtained the Herald-Journal of the Public Welfare Foundation in 1985 (along with The Tuscaloosa News and The Gadsden Times), at its where the daily circulation is 47,500, and Sunday 51,000.
On January 6, 2012, Halifax Media Group completed its purchase of Herald-Journal and 15 other newspapers from The New York Times . In 2015, Halifax was acquired by New Media Investment Group.
