George Harris Kennedy Jr. (February 18, 1925 - February 28, 2016) is an American actor who appeared in over 200 film and television productions. She played "Dragline" opposite Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke (1967), won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the role and was nominated for a suitable Golden Globe. He received a second Golden Globe nomination to describe Joe Patroni at Airport Airport (1970).

Kennedy is the only actor to appear in all four films in the Airport series, after changing Joe Patroni's role three times. He also plays Police Captain Ed Hocken in the Naked Gun comedy series, Lew Slade in the 1974 Quake Shot movie and the corrupt oil tycoon Carter McKay in the native Dallas series television.

Returns and Dallas: War of the Ewings . In the late 1970s, Kennedy also appeared as a celebrity guest at the Match Game game show.

Personal life

Marriage and children

Kennedy married four times, three women. In the 1940s, he married Dorothy Gillooly (1926-2012), who had served in the Women's Army Corps. They had one son, Kevin Kennedy, before divorcing in the 1950s; Dorothy returns to her hometown, Buffalo, NY, and raises her son there. In 1959, Kennedy married Norma Wurman, also known as Revel Wurman (1929-2007). The couple had two children, a son Christopher and a daughter of Karianna. Kennedy and Norma divorced for the first time in 1971, remarried in 1973, and divorced for the second and last time in 1978. In the same year (1978), Kennedy married Joan McCarthy (nee Castagna), daughter of John Castagna and former wife of William James McCarthy. They remained married until his death in September 2015. The couple adopted three children, including Betty Kennedy (later actress) and Shaunna Kennedy, who developed drug abuse issues. In 1998, after Shaunna was declared unfit to raise his daughter, Taylor, Kennedy, and Joan adopted the grandson as well.

Education

George Kennedy attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas under the Army Special Training Program (ASTP) in 1943 and 1944. The program was closed in 1944 when the unit was called for active duty. George Kennedy and his wife returned to Tarleton for a homecoming in 1980.

Kennedy is an aviator who enjoys flying and has Cessna 210 and Beechcraft Bonanza. After his experience working for the Far East Network during World War II and professional involvement with the Human Proof and Virus , Kennedy maintained lifelong closeness to Japan and its culture.

Death

Kennedy lived in Eagle, Idaho, at the time of his death. He died on Sunday morning, February 28, 2016, heart disease at a living facility assisted in Middleton, Idaho, ten days after his 91st birthday. He has a history of heart disease. He was also deeply affected by the death of Joan, his third wife, less than six months earlier.

At the time of his death, Kennedy was the oldest Oscar winner living in the Best Supporting Actor category. Coincidentally, he died on the day of the 88th Academy Awards ceremony.
