The sudden death of RT Gerry Ryan's broadcaster occurred on 30 April 2010. He is 53. A media debate on the ethics of journalism and Twitter, where many people find Ryan has died, occurred after his death. The manner in which some RT personalities report death causes the RTÃÆ' â € ° to bring new rules about how the stars should use Twitter. Ryan's funeral on May 6, 2010 was broadcast live online and to its listeners at RTÃÆ' â € ° 2fm, marking the first time in its history that the dominated music station aired Mass. On the night before his death, Ryan called his radio producer, Alice O'Sullivan, to tell him that he would not be able to broadcast The Gerry Ryan Show the following morning. He said he was "feeling tired" but insisted that he did not need a doctor.
On the morning of his death, Ryan does not show his radio show. Fiona Looney was presented instead, making an ironic comment to Colm Hayes when asked if she was ready: "Not because I got a call at ten to seven this morning, and I always thought someone died... and then I thought Gerry had died. because the phone call came from his producer, but he's not dead total, he's sticking. " Meanwhile, musician Jerry Fish traveled to Dublin from his home in County Carlow to train the song "All the Time in the World" which he and Ryan are scheduled to perform at the National Concert Hall on May 5 as part of the Mooney > special. Ryan's partner, Melanie Verwoerd, also noticed her absence from the radio and found herself unable to pass through the phone. Rumors about Ryan's death spread online, though the news remains unconfirmed for a while. Rick O'Shea posted some Twitter messages, including "I'm trying to verify the story of Gerry Ryan doing the rounds... Calm up the head...", followed by "Can anyone tell me where did Gerry Ryan's story come from?" then, finally, "Jesus". Miriam O'Callaghan tweeted the hour before - "Tragically it's true, it's shocking and sad, life is sometimes too cruel, RIP." - before deleting it but not before TV3 picks it up for their newsletters News @ 5: 30 . They also recorded a message from Ian Dempsey, Ryan's former colleague at RTÃÆ' â € ° 2fm, who stated: "Gerry Ryan RIP - shocking news has just broken - big losses for radio and Ireland". The online wars also broke out during the day among rival journalists, including Matt Cooper, Frank Fitzgibbon, and Adrian Weckler. Radio rival Dublin, 98, puts a video on YouTube about Ryan's body taken from his apartment and taken away by ambulance.

RTÃÆ' â € ° announced its radio center at its headquarters in Montrose at Donnybrook will open May 1 from 12:00 to 18:00, to give people a chance to sign a condolence book in Ryan's memory. Hundreds of people of all ages and from all backgrounds queued in extreme weather conditions to sign books, located on a table beside a black-and-white photograph of the broadcaster inside the black frame and a card from broadcaster RT Joe Duffy with the message: "You're the best and smartest ". The Irish Times suggested 2,000 people signed their name that day. The public queued again in the radio center for the same time period the following day, with The Irish Times saying 1,000 have signed their name today. The newspaper later said more than 4,000 people had signed a condolence book in the RT radio center. More than 7,000 text and Twitter messages sent by the public are then left beside the book by RTÃÆ' â € °.
More condolences were later opened by Dublin Mayor Emer Costello at the Mansion House from midday on May 3 for a three-day period, with people queuing as early as an hour before the building opened. The signers include comedian Brendan O'Carroll, Fianna FÃÆ'¡il politician SeÃÆ'¡n Haughey, social activist Stanislaus Kennedy (Sister Stan), agent Ryan Noel Kelly and broadcaster Ryan Tubridy, who queued "as a listener and friend". Businessman Robbie Wootton, a "close family" friend, recorded Mass with a camcorder at their request but the tape was not available for public consumption.
Ryan is buried privately at the Dardistown Cemetery in Cloghran. "Open the Hal disc chamber door" taken from 2001: A Space Odyssey engraved in the coffin.
Aftermath
After the funeral Morah Ryan received a letter expressing sympathy for his loss from former US President Bill Clinton; Clintons and Ryans are on first name terms with each other. He did not appear in public until 7 September 2010. The lifetime achievement award after death was collected by the Ryan family a few weeks after the funeral during the TV Awards Now.
In June RT 2'm 2fm was reported as a "haemorrhaging" of 10,000 listeners every week since Gerry Ryan's death as RTÃÆ'â € ° struggled to confirm his successor. Melanie Verwoerd then talked about the difficulties she witnessed when Gerry Ryan eventually became Ryan Tubridy's successor. Tubridy took over the role on August 20, 2010, paying homage to Gerry and having Bono as a guest at the opening ceremony.
Lottie and Rex Ryan received posthumous awards on behalf of their father, delivered to them by Dave Fanning at the People of the Year Awards on September 11, 2010. Gerry Ryan was awarded for "an unparalleled broadcasting skill that ranges easily from the truly sensitive and familiar with fantastik flamboyant and theatrical ".

Examination, cocaine controversy and censorship RT
The investigation was held at Dublin City Coroner's Court on December 10, 2010. He heard that the traces of cocaine were "likely trigger" of Ryan's death. Coroner Dr Brian Farrell says the cause of death is cardiac arrhythmias, with cocaine being used as a significant risk factor. He recorded a death sentence because of misfortune with a number of risk factors that led to Ryan's death.
Ryan and RTÃÆ'â € ° friends received criticism for their lack of comment since his appearance in the public arena of cocaine use at the examination, despite his adoration after his death. Businessman Ben Dunne says those who talk positively about Ryan when he dies are "weak people if they are not now" [speaking after the examination]. Liveline presenter Joe Duffy, a former neighbor of Ryan, says she "knows nothing" about the broadcaster's cocaine habit and describes herself as "naive" and "shocked by the revelation on examination". Today broadcaster Ian Dempsey FM also denied having any knowledge of Ryan's use of cocaine, saying: "I do not know about it and I work next to Gerry every day." I am stupid or I am protected from it all. Marian Finucane briefly commented on the revelation during The Marian Finucane Show :
All very tragic. I just hope none of her children go to the gas station, or to the store today, so they can avoid seeing newspaper coverage, I remember when Katy French died thinking about the same thing about her family. I also remember Gerry going on and on about the foolishness and mistakes of drugs; and cocaine especially at that time.
In the RTÃÆ' â € ° lyric fm Gay Byrne's event refers to the "little do" that has been organized for Morah Ryan but does not directly mention cocaine. Ryan Tubridy broke his silence at his radio show (in former Gerry Ryan slot) on December 13, 2010, saying:
You all know that Gerry is my friend and I love him. I have said it before and I will say it again today. To be honest this does not change and while I can not, and will not, allow cocaine and cocaine use but equally I can not and will not abandon my friend, who, like all of us, has flaws. [...] Without talking about it, there is an expression used when a person dies and the phrase "rests in peace", and these are the words that have echoed in my mind this weekend. And with that I will encourage all of you to listen this morning to let Gerry rest in peace.
Music journalist Joe Jackson accuses RT News At One that Ryan's cocaine habit is an open secret in RTÃÆ' â € ". 4fm announcer Gareth O'Callaghan, who worked with Ryan for years and filled in for him on his radio show in the past, talked about being offered cocaine by the announcer at the 2003 Gerry Ryan Show Christmas party at Four Seasons Hotel Dublin and how a security girl he knew said he watched Ryan snort cocaine during the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, which he presented. O'Callaghan was criticized and intimidated after commenting on this issue in public, while Michael O'Doherty, writing in the Evening Herald, posed the question: "Gareth, why silence 16 years in Gerry?"

RTÃÆ' â € ° says Carey's comments are "disappointing", although claiming to have censored the coverage of Ryan's cocaine habit. Alan Shatter of Fine Gael advised the authorities to "wage an all out war" on Ryan's cocaine suppliers, while Pat Rabbitte of the Labor Party said the allegations of corruption were "very serious from a prominent journalist".
Speaking after hearing that Ryan had become a cocaine user, Father Brian d'Arcy, who had delivered a homily at Ryan's funeral, said:
The biggest disappointment for me is that a man with a legal background will deal with cocaine, knowing that he has to make logical conclusions when you deal with any illegal drugs, you are part of the scene and all that goes with it.
